Matching Funds for Dog Park

The Park Board approved the Site Plan for a Dog Park in Bob Jones Park at the January 10, 2005, meeting

Next item requiring public approval is for Matching Funds in the amount of $12,500 requested by Boo-Boo’s Buddies

Funding summary:

Total estimated construction cost: $55,000

Existing FY 04-05 SPDC funding: ($30,000)

Funding raised by Boo-Boo’s Buddies: ($12,500)

Remaining funding (Matching Funds) ($12,500)

SPDC funds would cover construction of the fencing and gates and Matching Funds (and Boo-Boo’s Buddies funds) would provide for all of the amenities

¨ Park Master Plan identifies dog park as a use

¨ Boo-Boo’s Buddies pet event raised awareness and significant contributions

toward the development of a dog park

¨ Staff has gathered information to provide the Park Board with a proposed location

and cost estimates

¨ Two preliminary areas received negative feedback from adjacent neighbors:

o The area north of the entry drive into the Southlake Sports Complex off

Crooked Lane

o The northwest areas of Liberty Park at Sheltonwood near Dove and

Ridgecrest

¨ Staff recommendation: north side of the Bob Jones Park north pond and south of

the equestrian trail

o Existing parking, nearby utilities

o Boo-Boo’s Buddies (and sponsors) hope to contribute to park maintenance

and amenities

¨ Staff’s estimate on the roughly two-acre site:

o black powder coated wrought iron or aluminum fencing and gates ($30,000)

o picnic tables/benches ($4,000)

o shade structures ($15,000)

o water fountains ($2,000)

o utilities and landscape amenities ($4,000)

¨ Includes funding from Boo-Boo’s Buddies program
