Dog Park Development News - July 26, 2006
Our renovations and landscaping are complete.
The city has laid down a thick layer of hardwood mulch in the
shady areas and sod and irrigation in the sunny areas. This
has significantly improved the debris issues we were dealing with on
the site. In addition, the security of the small dog area was
enhanced by putting in denser slats to prevent extremely small dogs
from escaping from the park. With the addition of concrete
paths, are park is handicap-accessible. Water stations have
been installed with hoses and good drainage systems. Stop
by and check out the improvements. With all the trees we have
in the park, we have the "coolest" site in the metroplex for dogs to
play in the summer!
Dog Park Development News - April 14,
2006
Our renovations are just
about complete. The irrigation is in. We still have some
finishing touches on the landscaping the small dog area fence.
We are on schedule for the grand opening of the park on April 29th.
A dedication ceremony will be held from 10-11. All are
welcome!
Dog Park Development News - February 17,
2006
The dog park has reopened,
however, park improvements are still ongoing, so visitors may
experience some disruption by our crew. The concrete work has
been done. Next week we will be doing the trenching and
irrigation and landscaping.
Due to the burn ban that remains in effect,
we can not proceed with the security improvements to the small dog
area fence because they require soldering. We will get right
to work when the burn ban has been lifted.
We had planned a volunteer day for March
4th to spread the mulch. We have determined that our budget
has enough remaining dollars to hire a crew to do the work.
Therefore, the volunteer day has been cancelled.
We are gearing up for a grand opening and
dedication ceremony for the end of April.
Dog Park Development News - January 28,
2006
Effective Monday, January
30, 2006, the park will be closed temporarily for park improvements.
We will be working on the park entrance: installing concrete
pathways, putting in landscaping and signage. This will make
the park handicapped-accessible. Other improvements include:
- water stations in both the large and
small dog areas
- security improvements to the small dog
area fence. Denser slats on the exterior fence, and filling in low
ground fencing gaps on the interior fence.
- we have received a large donation
of mulch, enough for ground cover to the entire park. We are
looking for volunteers to help spread the mulch on Saturday, March
4, 2006. Please email
jan.c.ekonomy@sprint.com
if you are interested in helping.
We are not sure how long the park will be
closed. Please check back to the website for updates.
Dog Park Development News - December 30,

Work is still being done on the park, so a grand
opening will be announced at a later date. In the interim,
the dog park will remain open. There are
no official hours. It is open at all times.

planning to: Install concrete walkways into the park to
make it accessable to everyone Install the drinking fountains and
dog wash-up areas Install signage and exterior landscaping
Grade, mulch and do more clean up of the lot. We are planning

October 13,

Construction began last week.
There
is still some extraneous trash and glass on the property. A
community clean up day is planned for October 22nd from 10-1.
The City of Southlake staff will be assisting with equipment,
including trash dumpsters, gloves, rakes, etc. Dress for physical
work and come and help us out!
For information contact Karl:. We want the park to be
looking pristine for our opening day!
We
plan to have installation of the fence complete for our October 29th
event. There will be a separate fenced in area for large and small
dogs to play. There is still additional work that needs to be done
after the 29th (e.g. water facilities, benches, Dog waste stations,
signage, etc.) A grand opening will be announced at a later date.

The site is 95% cleared. What a beautiful,
shady spot! The city is busy with contractor discussions and
bidding for the fence and other amenities. Our
development efforts suffered a 6 week setback with the resignation
of the Southlake Park Planner. We now have a new Project
Manager leading the development who is in overdrive working on our
behalf. In light of the circumstances, we won't have the park
totally finished for our annual event on October 29th. Our
goal is to have the fence structure up so that all the pets in
attendance can get a taste for the new park.
June 3,
2005 Some initial clearing of brush has
been completed at the site of the new dog park. Much
additional work needs to be done. The plan is to clear all of
the brush, retain all of the trees on the site and prune the trees
up. Be the first to play in the park by attending our annual pet
celebration to be held adjacent to the new dog park on October 29,
2005!
March 2,
2005 The Southlake Park Board, the Southlake Park
Development Council (SPDC), and the City Council approved a 100%
match of $12,500 in funds raised by the BooBoo's Buddies
Organization. WE NOW HAVE SUFFICIENT FUNDING TO CONSTRUCT THE
DOG PARK! The total approved budget for the dog park is
$55,000. A site plan has been approved within Bob Jones Park
on N. White Chapel Boulevard, just east of the Softball complex.
The Dog park construction is planned to be completed by early Fall!!
